Birmingham City University’s STEAMhouse is where innovation is embraced and new ideas become reality. With this £2,500 scholarship, we want to support female applicants of Science/Technology/Engineering/Arts subjects to achieve their full potential.
Your task is to research an iconic female figure from Birmingham (UK), or a female figure who has had an impact on Birmingham, in one of the areas listed below:
- Sustainable urban design
- Smart cities & digital twins
- Innovative materials in construction
- Intersection of technology & traditional craftsmanship
- Sustainable fashion and textiles
- The impact of digital media on creative industries
- AI in design and engineering
- Robotics & automation
- Emerging technologies in filmmaking
- AI & data analytics in healthcare
- Biotechnology innovations
- Injury prevention in sports science
Submission guidelines
- Format: PDF or Word document
- Word limit: 1,000 words
- Submissions will be assessed on the following:
- Originality
- Creativity
- Clarity and coherence
- Use of examples and references.

- For our September 2025 intake: Monday 4th August, 11pm BST

Terms and Conditions
- Applicant must identify as female and hold an offer to study one of the following BCUIC programmes: Architecture, Art and Design, Built Environment, Computing, Engineering, Fashion, Film and Technology, Health and Life Sciences, Jewellery, Media or Sports Science.
- Students applying for direct entry onto an International Year One programme are not eligible.
- Discount will be deducted from the tuition fee payment during the second semester. If full tuition fee is paid, discount will be applied when student progresses to BCU.
- This discount does not apply to students who are sponsored by a government/ organisation/company.
- This discount applies to students joining BCUIC in the May 2025/September 2025/January 2026 intakes only.
- Limited number available; offered on a first come, first served basis.
- Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
